Koala Deck Protect
Condition-led care for timber decks.
Koala Deck Protect is a condition-led maintenance service for timber exposed to Rio's sun, rain and daily use. We inspect first, prepare the existing surface and select a compatible low-build oil finish.

Why choose it
Care designed around the timber.
A suitable oil-based finish is one part of a wider care system. Drainage, ventilation, cleaning, local repairs and exposure all affect how exterior timber performs.
- Keeps existing timber in service. Cleaning, inspection and compatible renewal can extend useful life before replacement is considered.
- Penetrating, low-build care. A suitable oil-based finish can slow liquid-water uptake without making timber waterproof.
- A finish designed for renewal. A low-build finish can weather without creating the thick peeling film associated with varnish.
- Visible grain. Oil-based finishes can deepen colour while leaving the timber's natural pattern legible.
- Condition-led maintenance. Reapplication is guided by exposure, wear and preparation—not a universal calendar.
- Part of a complete system. Sound drainage, ventilation, cleaning and repairs still matter.

Application
A process led by the timber’s condition.
- 01
Inspect and identify
We assess timber condition, moisture, existing coatings, drainage, exposure and any boards or fixings that need repair.
- 02
Prepare for compatibility
Preparation follows the selected product and current surface. It may include cleaning, a weathering period specified by the product manufacturer, sanding or removal of incompatible paint and varnish.
- 03
Apply, cure and reassess
Coat thickness, timber density, temperature, humidity and rain all affect drying. The site is returned to use only after the chosen product's instructions and actual conditions allow.
Maintenance and protection
Keep serviceable timber in use longer.
